Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is full of tough bosses, including one that kicked my ass several times, Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flames. This is how to find Midra, Lord of Flames in the Shadow Realm.

How to find Midra Lord of Frenzied Flames in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flames is found in The Mansion of Midra in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. To get to this place, you have to go through the Dark Catacombs, which can be reached from the Shadow Keep. Progressing through this dungeon takes you to the Abyssal Woods.

Once in the Abyssal Woods, use the map below to make your way through this area. Note that Torrent is too scared to be summoned in this area, so you must travel on foot. Along the way, you will find several Places of Grace, and the map fragment reveals this area. Watch out for the enemies with the big glowing sphere heads as they can’t be killed and will drive you crazy almost instantly. Use the bushes to crouch and sneak around them.

You can go to the Place of Grace in the northern part of the Abyssal Forest, but this is optional. The southern path leading you to Midra’s Manse is along the river, although part of it is blocked, and you have to go up to get around it. Follow the warnings on the ground to stay on the right path. Eventually, you will arrive at a large building with several kneeling corpses in front of it. This is Midra’s Mansion.

Upon entering Midra’s Mansion, use the Place of Grace for a respawn point, then hit the painting left to reveal a hidden illusion wall. Follow the new path, and you’ll eventually find yourself in a dining room. Watch out for the striking flames as you go around the table. Defeat the enemies in the diner and go to the ruined library area. Navigate the maze until you come across a lever and pull it. This opens up a new path behind you and reveals a ladder that you must climb.

The ladder leads to the upper area, and you will have to progress until you find another ladder. Climb the ladder again to find yourself higher still. Cross the rickety bridges, noting the secret doorway on the right in the dark that leads to a cookbook. Despite my suspicions, none of the bridges collapse, so you can cross however you want to find a Place of Grace.

Climb the ladder down past this Place of Grace and turn around to open the door behind you, revealing a shortcut to the entrance to Midra’s Manse. Attack the a large painting to the right of this door and reveal another illusion wall. Enter the new tunnel, go up the stairs, and climb the ladder in front of you. You’ll find a lever at the top that reveals a secret path back down the ladder and into the lower area of the library you were just at.

Enter the secret tunnel and follow the path until you reach another Place of Grace. All that remains is to continue until you meet the raging madman, Midra himself. Kill the old man to trigger a gruesome cutscene and release Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flames appears weak and frail, but he is anything but. Make sure you are prepared before this fight because Midra hits extremely hard, and I died many times because I underestimated him. Here are some tips before facing Midra Lord of the Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

  • Use Scadutree Fragments.
  • Use a call to action.
  • Focus on heavy staggering attacks.
  • Bleeding and physical damage are effective.
  • Use fire resistance.
  • Use Bloodhound Step to avoid attacks.

Midra’s attacks have slow endings but happens fast once he uses them. During his second phase, his attacks leave behind a trail of fire that can severely damage you. The best strategy is to be patient and avoid his attacks, then strike during openings. Spirits you summon draw his aggro, which can give you time to heal or let you attack while Midra is distracted.

Midra the Terror has two phases, moving into the second when his health bar drops below three quarters. While doing so, he casts the Flames of Madness, engulfing the entire room in flames. However, you can interrupt this if you dealt enough stagger damage before the transformation by breaking his stagger with a powerful jump attack. This is Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flames attacks.

  • Phase 1:
    • Triple Strike: Midra attacks three times with her sword. Avoid every attack as he swings.
    • Spinned Attack: Midra spins twice approaching you, slashing with her sword. The second spin may be delayed or not occur at all. Carefully roll towards Midra to avoid the attack.
    • Flame of Madness: Midra launches flames in a cone in front of him. Dodge to avoid this attack.
  • Phase 2:
    • Lunging Attack: Midra lunges forward leaving a trail of flame behind him. Equip to the side as he lunges and keep away from the flames.
    • Trail of Flame: Midra activates her sword, engulfing it in flames and shoots fire at you. These attacks also create a trail of fire. Dodge to the side to avoid them and his sword strike.
    • Explosive Flames: Midra creates an AoE ball of flame that explodes, engulfing a large area in flame. Sprint away from the ball to avoid getting hit.
    • Slam Attack: Midra leaps into the air and slams her sword into you, pinning you in a grip. Dodge to the side, but be ready because spikes will shoot from the ground if he misses. Dodge again to avoid the spikes.
