If you’re wondering how it works, here’s our handy guide on how to get and use Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail.

The Face wear feature effectively revamps some of what were once Fashion Accessories in Final Fantasy XIV and turns them into a special kind of glamor for you to customize to your heart’s content. However, to actually use this feature, you’ll need to complete a few steps first.

Go to the Gold plate and speak to the Prize Claimant standing next to the Cactpot Broker in the Entrance Plaza, and you’ll notice that several new Facewear options have been added for varying amounts of MGP. However, chances are you’ve already acquired some or all of these as Fashion Accessories, and the game will notify you to instead exchange them for Facewear by talking to Calamity Salvager in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah.

Interacting with Calamity Salvager, you should see ‘Exchange of Eyes’ below Choose that, next “Swap Goggles (convert to face wear)”and you then get all your previous shows Fashion Accessories like Facewear, effectively unlocking the feature for you.

Whichever one you don’t have, you can now go back to the Gold Saucer and buy the ones you want for MGP. Remember that if it has a gold check mark next to it, you already have it. They currently include:

  • The Faces We Wear – Thick-Rmmed Glasses: 30,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear – Contemporary Pince-nez: 40,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear – Rimless Glasses: 70,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear – The Faces of Minstrel: 90,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear – Oval Glasses: 100,000 MGP

Once you have the Face Dress feature unlocked and some options to work with, you can now start attaching them to your favorite outfits. Before you hit the Teleport button, note that you don’t need to go to your local Inn and dig into your Glamor dresser to do this.

Go to your dashboard and select ‘character’ under the ‘Character’ tab to pull up your Character Menu. At the lower left side of your equipped kit there is a slot with a glasses symbol (as seen above). Select this and the Facewear menu will appear, allowing you to choose a new goggle look. Even better, every couple has 12 colors to choose from, giving you additional customization flexibility.

It’s worth noting that if and when you change jobs, you’ll need to re-equip your desired Facewear to that new job. Likewise, when you go back to the job you switched from, you’ll also have to do it again. A little delicate, but a neat feature nonetheless that can give some sophisticated accents to your character’s clothing and hairstyle.
